Gestalt: "An organized whole that is perceived as more than the sum of its parts."

Kevin and I were fortunate. During the six years we made music together as Gypsies in Cyberspace, we worked with a number of extremely talented musicians. There were times, however, through either design or circumstance, that the two of us ended up being the sole contributors to a given song.

Such was the case with the fourteen songs on "Gestalt." Every note, every drumbeat, every lead or harmony vocal you'll hear on this album was laid down by either Kev or me. Basically, I went back through the Gypsies' catalog, then pulled out and tweaked fourteen tracks to which only he and I contributed, using whatever musical skills we possess to transform an initial song idea into a finished recording. In many ways, without others to depend on, we creatively inspired each other, resulting in arrangements and performances that truly were gestalt...a whole greater than the sum of our individual talents.

That's pretty kewl, if you think about it...especially when you consider that, despite recording over 100 songs together, Kev and I have never met, in person. He's still in Glasgow, Scotland. I currently reside in Portland, Oregon, USA. An ocean and a continent continue to separate us. The Internet remains the only thing that allows us to collaborate musically.

Hey. It works. And as Yogi Berra once said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

It ain't...and we won't.
